Eddie Stobart launches rail freight service

Eddie Stobart Ltd (ESL) is delighted to announce the lauch of a dedicated rail freight service, which will be contracted to Tesco PLC. This is the first fully liveried dedicated freight train to go into operation in the UK. The service will commence on Tuesday 19th September 2006 and will be the start of a 3 year contract between the parties to move consumer goods from Daventry in the Midlands to Tesco's distribution centre at Livingston in Scotland.

Every weekday ESL will collect goods from Tesco sites around the Daventry area, deliver them to Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal (DIRFT) where they will be loaded onto the train bound for Grangemouth rail terminal near Glasgow. Leaving at 06:31 the train will arrive in Grangemouth at 16:06.
